There's a lesson to be learned from the recent tragic events that took place in Ferguson, Mo. If both sides could give a little on this "us against them" mentality, a similar situation might be handled differently. Hindsight is cheap, but had the officer involved in the shooting, rather than being confrontational from the get go, entered into a conversation with the victim, and asked them to use the sidewalks, this entire tragedy may have been averted.
Hopefully, Missouri State Police Capt. Johnson may have started something that might spread throughout the nation as police forces re-evaluate how they deal with those citizens they are charged with serving and protecting.
