Hartford rally protests officer's use of stun gun

Hartford (AP) — Dozens of people rallied in Hartford to protest what they called a city police officer's unnecessary use of a stun gun on a teenager.

Demonstrators marched in the North End to police headquarters Wednesday evening. Some held signs saying "stop racist police brutality." They also called for police to drop a breach of peace charge against the teen.

Police said Detective Shawn Ware shot 18-year-old Luis Anglero with a stun gun on Aug. 19 as authorities were breaking up an unruly crowd. Authorities called Anglero an aggressor and agitator.

But Anglero's relatives say he was obeying Ware's orders when the detective stunned him. They say Anglero suffered a head injury after falling to the ground.

Police Chief James Rovella promised protesters a thorough investigation. Ware remains on duty.
