We have learned that with the departure of Rear Adm. Kenneth Perry, there will be no flagship officer at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton appointed to replace the him, according to the cover story, "Sub group, CO in for changes," (Aug. 23). It seems that something underhanded is hiding in full sight.

If Command of Group Two shifts to Norfolk, what will the future be for the Submarine Capital of the World? Where is the outcry from our governor, state senators and state representatives? Where are the voices of protest from Tom Foley and the other contenders for the offices in Connecticut government?

I sense that more command duties will be shifting south and when Groton shutters the base's gates a few years down the road it won't even be noticed. Please start looking at this, Gov. Dannel Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman. What do you think is going to happen if you don't step in and rally for a replacement for Rear Adm. Perry?

We can't let this base, vital for the protection of the East Coast, slip into oblivion.
