UConn Avery Point campus to host super moon viewing event Sept. 9

Groton - The University of Connecticut Avery Point campus will host a viewing of the bright full moon at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Families are invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets, binoculars, and a picnic dinner to watch the sun set and the moon rise.

There will be two presentations beginning at 6:45 p.m. Larry Krozel, lecturer from the Treworgy Planetarium at the Mystic Seaport, will talk about the astronomy related to the super moon, and Moshe Gai, professor of physics at UConn Avery Point, will talk about the physics related to the super moon occurrence. There will be telescopes available for viewing the heavens.

Admission is free and cars should park in the lot just inside the main campus entrance. In the event of overcast skies or rain, the event will be canceled.
