New London — Connecticut College scored a goal in each half on the way to a 2-0 shutout of host Mitchell College in a men's soccer game on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Matthew Bitchell opened the scoring at the 25:58 mark off an assist from sophomore Pat Devlin.
Sophomore Charlie Overton set up senior Kevin O'Brien with about 14 minutes remaining in Conn's season opener. Senior goalie Austin DaCunha made one save for the Camels.
Mitchell (1-1) was out-shot 23-4. Goalie Ramazan Sinani had seven saves.
College field hockey
• Madeline Tank scored four goals and had an assist as No. 10 Amherst beat Connecticut College 7-0 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference and season opener for both teams.
• Mitchell College dropped its season opener, losing to Albertus Magnus, 3-1. Games scores were 25-22, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-19. Amanda Garcia had 13 kills and Myia Williams added 10 kills while Nicole Caminiti added 28 assists for the Mariners.
• Xavier will visit Montville for a scrimmage on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
There is no admission, but fans are asked to bring cans or non-perishable items for donation to the Montville Food Drive.
