Calhoun talks about his documentary, ESPN contract, etc.

Jim Calhoun may be retired from coaching.

But he'll never entirely leave the spotlight.

Calhoun addressed a variety of topics during a conference call promoting next week's premiere of "Born to Lead: Jim Calhoun," a documentary that covers his life and Hall of Fame coaching career.

The Bushnell theater in Hartford will be the site of the premiere next Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Calhoun hasn't seen the entire film yet.

"I’ve seen the first cut, which is great," Calhoun said. "I haven’t had a chance to really sit down and see the whole thing. That’s going to be exciting on that night… It’s something different."

Calhoun joked that he played himself in the documentary because Sean Connery wasn't available.

Family members and former UConn players were interviewed for the project as well as a number of college basketball coaches, including Syracuse's Jim Boeheim and Duke's Mike Krzyzewski.

"When I'm watching clips of it, it's amazing how many memories come back," Calhoun said.

Calhoun also said that he's signed a contract with ESPN to serve as a studio commentator. He's still working out his schedule for the upcoming college basketball season.

"I know right now we’re heading toward being in the studio...," Calhoun said. "I will be talking about something I love – basketball, kids, the game. It is something that I’m looking forward to.

"My role, right now, is going to be most likely commentating. Right now, it will be in studio. But it's a little bit up in the air."

Calhoun has no plans to get back into coaching.

"The good thing about it, when you stop coaching, you stop losing. The things that we’ve already done have been great."
