    H.S. roundup: Ledyard girls edge Wheeler in soccer 1-0

    North Stonington - Carley Loy scored with 7 minutes, 40 seconds in remaining to lift Ledyard High Schools to a 1-0 girls' soccer victory over Wheeler on Tuesday.

    Goalie Julia Lavin made seven saves to earn the shutout for the Colonels (7-1) while Kylie Garcia had nine saves for the Lions (1-7).

    In other games:

    • Jenna Bendfelt's second-half goal gave Fitch a 1-0 win over Lyman Memorial. Shea Berry had nine saves and Allison Clark had the assist for the Falcons (2-7).

    • Gabby Silvia had two goals as Stonington beat Plainfield, 3-1, to remain unbeaten in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division. Kaitlyn Whipple also scored while Sam Narducci, Gabby Soscia and Sarah Thomas each had an assist for Stonington (7-1, 4-0) and Gabi Hoops had five saves. Shannon Sweeney scored for the Panthers.

    • Hannah Meyers scored and Madison Beaupre had the assist as Montville edged Killingly, 1-0, in the ECC Medium. Stefanie Szot had seven saves for Montville (4-3-1, 3-2). Devin Provost had six saves for Killingly.

    • Claire Hurley scored three times as Waterford beat New London, 4-0, in the ECC Medium. Summer Wyatt scored her first career goal on a penalty kick for the Lancers (4-3-1, 3-2) and Jamie Littlefield and Kayla Jean-Pierre both had assists. The Whalers are 0-7, 0-4.

    • Jenna Peduzzi, assisted by Meredith Aird, scored the first goal and Hannah O'Brien later added an unassisted goal to lead Old Lyme past North Branford 2-0 in the Shoreline Conference. Goalie Tori Sims made one save for the Wildcats (7-1, 5-1).

    • Stephanie Laforcade and Theresa Durkee each had two goals in unbeaten East Lyme's 8-0 win over Griswold. Katie Christiansen, Danielle Sullivan, and Mackenzie Northcut also scored for the Vikings (7-0).

    • Paola Vangjeli had three goals and an assist as Williams School trounced Providence Country Day, 7-0. Abby Smith had a goal and an assist and Lucy Burr had two assists for the Blues. Also, Mia Marciano, Abby Xenelis, and Margot Goodman scored.

    Boys' soccer

    • Nathan Behr scored a pair of goals as Grasso Tech defeated Putnam 3-1 in the Constitution State Conference East Division. Curtis Wolfe added a goal and an assist for the Eagles while goalie John Woodard made 16 saves.

    Field hockey

    • Tegan Ward, Lizzie Dowds and Hannah Sugrue scored for Waterford in its 3-0 win over Windham in the ECC. Sarah Riemann and Emily Dowds each had an assist for the Lancers (2-3-1, 2-3-1).

    • Molly Crowley had three goals and two assists to pace Stonington past East Lyme, 7-0, in the ECC. Abby Blanchard had two goals for Stonington (6-0, 6-0) and Meagan Dreher and Casey Williams both scored. Sierra McCaffey had 16 saves for the Vikings (2-6, 2-4).

    • Madison Weaver and Alyssa Rainey both scored twice as Killingly downed Fitch/Ledyard, 6-0, in an ECC contest. Valerie Laplume had 17 saves for Fitch/Ledyard (1-5-1, 1-4-1).

    Swimming

    • Melinda Wei won the 100-yard freestyle (57.31), 200 freestyle (2:07.67) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay team (2:09.14) as unbeaten East Lyme edged Norwich Free Academy, 90-86, in the ECC. Other individual winners for the Vikings were Emma Magna (50 freestyle, 27.38), Jazzy Bazinet (diving, 221.70), Tori Poole (100 butterfly, 1:03.97), and Victoria Chen (100 backstroke, 1:09.10). Emma Buckridge won the 200 individual medley (2:23.10) and 500 freestyle (5:29.61) for NFA (0-5, 0-4) and Ashley Lac won the 100 breaststroke (1:34.16).

    • Asia Langley and Meika Gathy won two events apiece to lead Waterford past Ledyard, 95-73, in the ECC. Langley won the 200 IM (2:26.38) and 100 butterfly (1:04.81) for the Lancers (4-2, 3-2) and Gathy captured the 500 free (5:46.94) and 100 backstroke (1:08.38). Megan Pipech won the 100 free (1:04.4) for the Colonels (2-3, 2-3).

    Volleyball

    • Wheeler defeated Norwich Tech 25-15, 20-25, 25-6 and 25-17 in a non-conference matchup. Alysia Rathbun led the Lions (6-4) with eight aces and one kill while Lexie Galluci added five aces and seven assists, Chrissy McSwain had four kills and Christy Sehl had three aces and five kills. The Lions are 5-4. Madison Bodley had five kills, 10 assists, four digs and one block for Norwich Tech while Anna Hammar added six kills and two blocks.
