Local roundup: East Lyme football comes back to beat Law 21-14
East Lyme - A winning record might be out of East Lyme High School's reach, but coach Rudy Bagos believes the Vikings have become a pretty good football team.
"Actually, I feel like we've been playing pretty well all year," Bagos said after his Vikings rallied from an early 7-0 deficit to beat Law of Milford 21-14 Thursday night, ending the Lawmen's five-game winning streak. "We've played some very good football teams."
East Lyme (4-6), which closes its season on Thanksgiving morning at rival Waterford, has lost five games to teams which have either qualified or remain in the hunt for a state playoff berth - Middletown, Norwich Free Academy, Windham, New London and Ledyard.
"For us to be able go 5-6, I would take it because of the schedule we've played," he said.
The Vikings spotted Law an early 7-0 lead before scoring the next 21 points.
Mason Pagan tied it late in the first half on a 10-yard run before the Vikings converted a pair of turnovers into 14 points to take control in the second half. Mike Morgan, who carried 14 times for 71 yards, scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 3-yard run midway through the third quarter after the Vikings recovered a fumble.
Morgan also played a major role in East Lyme's final TD, intercepting the pass that led to Connor Parker's 22-yard touchdown pass to T.J. LaDuca early in the fourth quarter.
Law (5-5) scored with 1:37 to pull within seven, but the Vikings recovered the onside kick and ran the clock out.
