Two newly elected House representatives from the Groton area will serve on legislative committees focused on education, transportation and banking in the General Assembly’s upcoming 2015-16 legislative session.

State Reps.-elect Aundré Bumgardner, R-Groton, and John Scott, R-Groton, begin their first two-year terms on Jan. 7.

Bumgardner will serve on the Education, Transportation, and the Finance, Revenue and Bonding committees. He represents the 41st House District, which includes Groton and New London.

Scott will serve on the Banking, Insurance, and Energy and Technology committees. He represents the 40th House District, which includes Groton and Ledyard.

House Republicans picked up 10 seats in the General Assembly in November, campaigning in southeastern Connecticut for more fiscal responsibility.
