Cruise ship to make New London stop on July 22

The cruise ship Dawn Princess, which is in the midst of a round-the-world trip from Sydney, Australia, is scheduled to dock at State Pier in New London July 22.

The 864-foot Princess Cruises line ship, which carries 2,000 passengers and 924 crew, is slated to arrive at 10 a.m. and remain until 7 p.m.

The ship left Sydney on May 18 and sailed to India and Dubai, the Greek Islands, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Southampton, England. It left Southampton on Saturday for Ireland and then will cross the Atlantic Ocean to New England with port calls in Boston and then New London. It then heads to New York City and on to the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal to the Pacific Ocean and back to Sydney.

While in New London, the passengers can tour Fort Trumbull and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium, Essex Steam Train and Olde Mistick Village. The tugboat Patricia Ann is scheduled to welcome the ship as she arrives with a nautical water cannon salute and the Nutmeg Fife & Drum Corp will welcome passengers at the pier at 10 a.m. The cruise ship’s visit is the latest successful effort by the Connecticut Cruise Ship Task Force to bring cruise ships to New London.
