Rick's List: Good holiday music edition
I was hard at work earlier this week on a breaking story of massive importance when a menacing, looming shadow suddenly darkened my computer screen. I looked up and beheld the stern visage of The Day's managing editor Tim Cotter.
"People think you hate Christmas," he said.
"What?!" I cried, flipping the dangling ball of my Santa hat so it wasn't in my eyes.
"Your last two 'Rick's Lists,'" he said. "They're both about holiday songs you don't like."
"Well, yes … but there are plenty of Christmas songs I DO like."
"Good. Give me a list about them. Now."
Folks, I love the holidays. And I love having a soundtrack for this time of year - including such faves as "Silver Bells," "I'll Be Home for Christmas," "Ave Maria" (but not the Jimmy Durante version), and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." But everyone likes those. Here are five more that maybe aren't as obvious.
1. "Marshmallow World" by Dean Martin
2. "Santa's Beard" by The Beach Boys
3. "Together This Year" by Andy Timmons and Maylee Thomas
4. "Yesterday's Rain" by Snuffy Walden
5. The "Night" Suite by George Winston
