    Local roundup: Conn rolls past Middlebury in women's basketball

    New London - Kaitlyn Cresencia scored 12 points to help lead the Connecticut College women's basketball team to a 54-35 win over Middlebury in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game on Sunday.

    Mairead Hynes had 10 points and eight rebounds, Jenna Lovett had 10 rebounds, Carlee Smith had six assists and Willa McKinley came off the bench to score 11 for Conn (12-3, 2-1).

    Men's basketball

    • Steve Enoch scored 18 points and had seven rebounds as St. Thomas More beat Vermont Academy 83-76 in the Hoopball Classic at Springfield College.

    Enoch, who will play for UConn next season, was named the player of the game. Sean Hoehn had 18 points and four assists, E.J. Crawford scored 11 and Sterling Taplan and Ryan Peterson had 10 points each for T-More (16-3).

    • Hunter Merryman scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds as Middlebury beat Connecticut College 63-59 in a NESCAC game. Zuri Pavlin had 13 points and 15 rebounds, Isaiah Robinson had 10 points and nine rebounds and Lee Messier scored 10 for Conn (7-8, 0-3).

    Wrestling

    • Coast Guard senior All-American Nate Giorgio improved to 24-0 with three wins as the Bears beat Western New England 47-1 and Norwich University 42-0 while losing to Johnson & Wales 32-11.

    Giorgio, wrestling at 133 pounds, won two matches by technical fall and earned a major decision in the other. Mike Shermot (174), Marc Wagner (184) and Mark Howard (285) won two matches each for Coast Guard.

    Men's hockey

    • Robbie Russo scored three goals as Notre Dame beat UConn 6-1 in a Hockey East game. UConn (7-11-5, 4-5-2) took a 1-0 lead on Kasperi Ojantakanen's goal 16:16 into the game.

    Connecticut Sun

    • The Connecticut Sun will take place in the Atlanta Dream Classic, a WNBA preseason doubleheader at Atlanta's KFC Yum! Center, on May 23. The Sun will play the Indiana Fever at 5 p.m., followed by the Dream hosting the Washington Mystics at 7 p.m.
