    Waterford police arrest man after car crash, brief foot chase

    Police seized a gun and drugs late Wednesday night during a car chase and brief foot pursuit that started in Waterford and ended in Salem.

    Waterford — Police arrested a Norwich man after police said he led them on a brief car chase and foot pursuit late Wednesday night.

    Lawrence Facchini, 31, of no certain address, was charged with engaging an officer in pursuit, reckless driving, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of heroin with intent to sell, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, violation of probation and weapons in a motor vehicle.

    Waterford police said that at about 11 p.m. they observed what appeared to be drug transaction in a commercial parking lot in the Quaker Hill section of town.

    When police attempted to stop the vehicle involved in the alleged drug transaction, the car did not stop.

    The driver, later identified as Facchini, led police on a car chase into Salem, which led to a minor crash.

    Facchini then fled on foot into a wooded area, where he was arrested.

    State police also assisted with the arrest.

    Police said they seized a Smith & Wesson .357 handgun, 23 grams of cocaine, 27 grams of heroin, which were individually wrapped into 30 baggies. Police also took the vehicle.

    An unidentified officer did sustain a minor injury during the foot chase.

    Facchini is being held on a $75,000 bond, pending his arraignment today in Superior Court in New London.
