    Local roundup: Raggon, Wheeler reach milestones in boys' basketball

    Coast Guard Academy women's basketball coach Alex Ivansheck saw the Bears pick up their 10th straight victory Wednesday night, topping Clark 82-32. The 10 consecutive wins is a program record.

    North Stonington - Jacob Raggon scored 18 points, including the 1,000th of his career, as the Wheeler High School boys' basketball team qualified for the CIAC Class S and Eastern Connecticut Conference tournaments with a 69-49 win over Grasso Tech on Wednesday night.

    Raggon, a senior, reached the mark with a free throw in the second quarter. Alex Haines had 10 points and 10 rebounds, T.J. Condon added 12 points and 10 assists and Mike Dellaporta had 10 points for Wheeler (8-9).

    In other games:

    • Forman took a 44-16 halftime lead and went on to beat Williams School 82-25. Jake Parizo led Williams with 11 points.

    • Jared Neal scored 11 points, including sinking two free throws in the closing minute, to lead Norwich Tech past Lyman Memorial 61-51. Alex Casillas had 14 points and Osias Mack scored 13 for the Norwich Tech (10-8).

    H.S. girls' basketball

    • Mackenzie Aldridge scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds as Fitch snapped a six-game losing streak with a 43-35 win over Stonington, getting the Falcons (8-12) in the Class L and ECC tournaments.

    "I'm excited for them," Fitch coach Meredith Ward said. "We played really well. We executed our game plan. Offensively, we had struggled the last time against them. That was our biggest difference this time."

    Brianna Robinson had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Fitch.

    Margot Calmar (seven rebounds) and Tatyana LaFrance Boyce scored 13 points each and Cameron Dreher had eight rebounds for Stonington (13-7).

    • Mackenzie Brayman scored a game-high 13 points as Wheeler kept its postseason hopes alive with a 53-19 win over Putnam. The Lions (7-12) will qualify for both the CIAC Class S and ECC tournaments with a win over Grasso Tech today. Kylie Baker had 11 points and eight rebounds and Maddie Porter had 11 rebounds for Wheeler.

    • Julia Strycharz had 16 points and seven rebounds in Old Lyme's 62-41 win over Hale-Ray in the Shoreline Conference. Abby Stone added 15 points and nine steals for the Wildcats (15-5, 15-3).

    • Williams School closed out its season with a 44-23 loss to Hyde-Woodstock. Paola Vangjeli had nine points, Claudia Pagnozzi-Schwam had nine rebounds and Amy Burzin and Maddy Lahm had six rebounds each for Williams (1-11).

    • Parish Hill beat Grasso Tech in a CSC East Division game 58-14. Tabitha Ford led Grasso (5-13) with nine points.

    • Lauren Veile scored seven points and added eight rebounds while Emily Kivela added six points and Elanna Sanon had eight rebounds in Norwich Tech's 40-30 loss to O'Brien Tech. The Warriors fell to 4-16 overall.

    H.S. swimming

    • Sam Kokomoor, John Moody and Dakota Williams won two events each as Fitch/Stonington remained unbeaten with a 111-61 win over Waterford in an ECC meet. Kokomoor won the 200-meter freestyle (2:10.53) and 400 freestyle (4:27.80), Moody won the 50 freestyle (27.28) and 100 backstroke (1:08.74) and Williams won the 200 individual medley (2:24.53) and 100 freestyle (55.46). Patrick Nowak (100 breaststroke, 1:18.62) and Will Ferguson (100 butterfly, 1:12.30) also won events for Fitch/Stonington (8-0, 7-0) and Matt Patton of Waterford (1-8, 1-8) won the diving with 159.95 points.

    Women's basketball

    • Coast Guard Academy extended its program record winning streak to 10 straight with an 82-32 rout of Clark University in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. Meghan Fornaro had 17 points and eight rebounds while Stonington graduate Amanda Roy (a career-high 14 points), Gill Gerton (13 points, six assists), Leigha Steinbeck (10 points) and Torie Sutherland (10 points, eight rebounds) also scored in double digits for the Bears (17-7, 11-4).

    The Bears broke the game open with a 24-0 run in the second half and finished with a season-high 13 3-pointers. They can clinch the third seed in next week's conference tournament with a win against MIT on Saturday in the regular-season finale.

    Men's basketball

    • Coast Guard fell behind by 19 at halftime on the way to a 66-51 loss to Babson in the NEWMAC. Kevin Alvarez led the Bears (6-18, 2-11) with nine points and Darius Adams came off the bench to contribute five points and a team-best six rebounds.
