New London – Police on Wednesday arrested Andrew Pendexter, 31, of 69 Canterbury Road, Mystic, charging him with possession of narcotics and risk of injury to a minor.

According to police, at 10:25 a.m. members of the narcotics investigative division observed two men driving together to different known drug locations within the city, according to a news release.

Police said the investigators followed the car and observed the man who was sitting in the passenger seat leave the car and go into a residence for a brief time.

The man, later identified as Pendexter, then returned to the car and got back into the passenger seat. Police said the driver was observed committing a motor vehicle infraction, at which point the car was stopped by police.

Investigators confronted Pendexter, who turned over a small quantity of narcotics that police said appeared to be consistent with heroin.

During the stop investigators found an 18-month-old child in a car seat in the back of the vehicle. The child was placed into protective custody, police said.
