St. Thomas More's Enoch named Gatorade Boys' Basketball Player of the Year

Steve Enoch became the third St. Thomas More Chancellor to be named the Gatorade Connecticut Boys' Basketball Player of the Year.

The award honors both athletic and academic excellence as well as character demonstrated on and off the court.

Enoch, a 6-foot-10 forward from Norwalk, averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Chancellors, who went 29-9 overall and reached the semifinals of the National Prep Championship tournament. He has a 3.27 grade point average and serves as a volunteer campus tour guide. His community service activities include delivering meals and clothing to needy families.

He'll attend UConn and play for the Huskies next school year.

"Steven Enoch possesses tremendous integrity and initiative," St. Thomas More coach Jere Quinn said in a released statement. "He has had a wonderful season while playing in the strongest conference in the country. He will have a very successful career at UConn as a student and as an athlete."

Other former Gatorade state player of the year award winners with local ties include Kris Dunn of New London (2011-12), St Thomas More's Andre Drummond (2010-11) and Allan Chaney of New London (2007-08).

As a state winner, Enoch is on the list of finalists for the national honor. A winner will be announced in March.
