    High school track roundup: Montville girls begin their title defense with a victory

    Montville — Montville High School's Kiah Strickland won four events (javelin, shot put, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) in a 118-28 victory over Waterford in an Eastern Connecticut Medium Division girls' track meet Tuesday.

    Nadia Dallas won the 100 and 200 and was part of the first-place 4x100 relay for the Indians (2-1, 1-0, defending division champs), along with Haley Bedard, Maddie Campbell and Tavahnee West. Campbell took the long jump and discus.

    Jeannette Mooney (3,200) and Makayla Andrews (high jump) won events for Waterford (0-1, 0-1).

    In other meets:

    • Olivia Lane won the shot put (35-2.5) and discus (101-0) as Norwich Free Academy downed Ledyard 110-39 in the ECC Large. Margaret Lewerk won the 100 (13.3) and 400 (1:04) for NFA (3-0, 1-0) and teamed with Lauren Knerr, Jasmyn Cuc-Saenz and Kelsie Hall to win the 4x100 (53.4). Cuc-Saenz also won the 200 (28.5) and Knerr the long jump (15-2). Megan Brawner won the 800 (2:31) and 1,600 (5:33) for Ledyard (1-2, 0-1).

    • Taty LaFrance Boyce won the long jump (16-3) and high jump (5-0) and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay team in Stonington’s 98-55 victory over Killingly in the ECC Medium Division. Marissa Yambao added wins in the shot put and the discus for the Bears.

    • St. Bernard tied Tourtellotte 57-57, but lost to Windham in the ECC Small Division. Erica Massad won the 100 hurdles (17.5), 300 hurdles (50.3) and triple jump (32-0) for St. Bernard (1-3-1, 0-1-1) while Ellen Arvidson captured the 800 (2:46) and 1,600 (5:52), Christina McCaffey won the 400 (1:06) and Kaelin Smith won the high jump (4-0).

    • Sam Lee won the 200 (27.67), 400 (1:04.43) and ran a leg on the first-place 4x800 relay team in Old Lyme’s losses to Haddam-Killingworth (96-41) and Cromwell (68-55). Meg Burns (100), Ava Restrepo (800), Caroline Cox (300 hurdles) and Eliza Hackling (100 hurdles) also won individual events for Old Lyme.

    • Alicia Moroyoqui, Madison Powe and Sydnee Spruill won two individual events apiece during Fitch's 76-73 loss to Woodstock Academy in the ECC Large Division. Moroyoqui won the 800 (2:33) and 1,600 (5:45) for the Falcons (2-1, 0-1) while Powe won the 100 (13.6) and long jump (14-9.5) and Spruill captured the 200 (28.4) and high jump (4-10).

    • Mia Santana finished first in 100 (12.62), 400 (1:00.9), long jump (16-1) and tied Bacon Academy's Nicole Lizotte in the 200 (27.3) in New London's 87-54 loss in the ECC Medium. Alysa Cornish placed first in the 300 hurdles (55.9) while Shineika Fareus won the 800 (2:38.7) and Delany McPhail won the 3,200 (12:51.4) for the Whalers. 

    Boys

    • Patrick Scheurer won the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, javelin and ran a leg on the first-place 4x100 relay team for Fitch in a 110-40 victory over Woodstock in the ECC Large Division. John Floyd took the long jump, high jump and triple jump for the Falcons (3-0, 1-0). Daelon Morgan (1,600) and Matt Kerst (800) each won individual events, while running on two winning relays.

    • Rolando Rivera won the 200 meters (23.9 seconds), the long jump (18-4) and ran a leg on the first-place 4x100 relay team to lead Waterford past Montville 82-68 in the ECC Medium Division. Anthony Jordan (100, 4x100), Brian Roscover (1,600, 4x800), Connor Chung (400, 4x100) and Caleb Harris (3,200, 4x800) also each won an individual event and a relay for the Lancers (1-0, 1-0). Tyler Quidgeon won the high jump (5-10), shot put (38-9.5) and javelin (134-1) for Montville (0-3, 0-1).

    • Cameron Whalen (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Kyle Whalen (100, 200) and Kieran Thornell (1,600, 3,200) each won a pair of individual events in Stonington’s 104-44 victory over Killingly in the ECC Medium Division. Thornell (4x800) and Kyle Whalen (4x100) also ran on first-place relay teams, as the Bears (1-2, 1-0) swept the three relays.

    • Jelani Lucas won four events in New London's 102-47 loss to Bacon Academy in the ECC Medium Division. Lucas took first in the 300 hurdles (43.6), long jump (20-8), triple jump (41-4) and high jump (5-10) for the Whalers. Devin Laliberte won the discus (134-2.5), javelin (133-4) and shot put (43-0) for Bacon.

    • Jordan Crawford placed first in the 100 hurdles (17.6) and 300 hurdles (45.8), pacing NFA past Ledyard 102-48 in the ECC Large. Jawaun Johnson won the 100 (11.3) and 200 (22.6) for the Wildcats (3-0, 1-0). Michael Lopes won the 400 (53.4), long jump (20-0) and high jump (5-8) for Ledyard (2-1, 0-1).

    • Brian Buttrick won the long jump (20-0), high jump (5-8), 110 hurdles (17.07) and 300 hurdles for Old Lyme, which topped Cromwell 74-58 and lost to Haddam-Killingworth 88-47. Jared Stanland (discus), Evan Deng (400), Tom Roth (800) and James Kolb (3,200) also won events for Old Lyme.
