Mohican remains jewel in downtown New London

As a resident of The Mohican for a number of years, further clarification is needed regarding the elevator situation here (“Residents of Mohican high-rise can’t use elevators," Aug 12). The building, one of the architectural jewels of downtown New London, is undergoing considerable renovation and is a delightful place to live. My respect goes out to the visiting nurses, pharmacists, and Meals on Wheels folks who were temporarily inconvenienced with the loss of elevator service.

Our mayor, rather than talk to the property manager about the situation, rounded up the usual suspects, the professional complainers. Rude, no class. Of course, Aging Commissioner Betsy Ritter had to get into the fray. What a $120,000 joke. I wish Gov. Weld had given me a patronage position like hers when I ran unsuccessfully for state office.

Interesting that The Mohican has a phantom tenant’s association, its president referring to those who live here as "his residents." His arrogance is unbelieveable! As a retired teacher and union steward, I recall knocking on doors, gathering signatures and talking to voters during my election efforts.
