Tigers' offense falls flat in loss

Norwich — The Connecticut Tigers dropped a 1-0 game to the Vermont Lake Monsters in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader Sunday at Dodd Stadium. It was the third time this year that the Tigers allowed only one run to the Lake Monsters and lost.

The second game was canceled due to rain and field conditions.

Connecticut starter Spenser Watkins (4-4) retired the first two Vermont (26-33) batters in the fifth, but gave up a walk to Skye Bolt. Ryan Howell then doubled to left to drive in Bolt with the game's only run.

The Tigers (28-29) left eight runners on base, including four in scoring position.

Connecticut will play the first of a three-game series on the road Monday against Tri-City.
