State police say Hamden man led them on high-speed pursuit in Waterford
Waterford — State police said a 21-year-old driver from Hamden engaged them in a pursuit Friday night at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour along Interstate 395, after a trooper who had pulled him over for speeding attempted to arrest a passenger wanted by Norwich Police.
The southbound chase began at Exit 2, formerly known as Exit 77, at 10:22 p.m. and ended near the intersection with Interstate 95 when the Toyota Camry driven by Jerome R. Meyers struck a Lexus sport utility vehicle driven by a woman from Lyme, spun out of control and struck a jersey barrier.
No injuries were reported.
According to a news release, Meyers and a front seat passenger who was not charged were taken into custody at the scene.
Meyers was charged with engaging police in a pursuit, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and interfering with police.
Back seat passengers Jon Johnson, 19, of 38 Laurel Hill Ave., Norwich, and Dwayne Lee, 21, of New Haven, fled on foot.
Troopers located Johnson a short time later and charged him with interfering with police.
He was turned over to Norwich Police, who had an arrest warrant charging him with interfering from an earlier incident.
Lee was located in a nearby wooded area by a K-9 team and charged with interfering with police.
