Police: Homicide ruling in case of man found in Bridgeport creek
BRIDGEPORT — Bridgeport police say the death of a man whose body was found in a creek in August has been ruled a homicide.
The state medical examiner's office issued its ruling Friday in the death of 42-year-old Wayne Bentley of West Haven.
He was found in Ash Creek behind Chubby's pub in Bridgeport after 1 a.m. on Aug. 1.
Bridgeport public safety spokesman Kevin Coughlin said an autopsy found the cause of Bentley's death was blunt force trauma of the head and neck, and drowning.
Police said witnesses told officers two men involved in a fight had fallen into the water behind the pub. Firefighters found Bentley's body, but the other man was gone.
The Connecticut Post reports Bentley's death notice said he is survived by his wife, four children, three step-children, three sisters and a brother.
