Analysis: Coast Guard arrived at Maine Maritime looking for a win last year and was in for a rude awakening, as the Mariners won 13-7, intercepting the Bears four times in the second half, twice inside the 20-yard line. This time, Coast Guard has a chance to go to 2-0 in the NEFC following last week's 21-20 upset of Salve Regina, ranked No. 5 in New England at the time. "Our attitude this Monday was completely focused," defensive back Eli Maurer said, addressing the return trip to Maine. "We went up there last year thinking it was going to be a quick weekend trip, a quick win." ... Maine Maritime runs the triple-option, leading the NEFC and ranking eighth nationally with 340 rushing yards per game. The Mariners also give up a league-high 40.7 points and 523.3 yards per game on defense, however, which should give Coast Guard's spread offense some room to work. Coast Guard has been held to 93 rushing yards combined the last three weeks, needing to improve on that figure. ... Coast Guard's victory last week came on a game-winning 37-yard field goal by Tyler Henning, with some help from Ryan Robertson, who blocked two punts. Henning is also seventh in the nation with an average of 43.3 yards per punt. ... Maine Maritime lost to MIT 51-26 last week despite racking up 494 yards offense. ... Victory, the Coast Guard quarterback, is just 48 passing yards shy of the program record of 4,569 held by Jon Resch. Victory, a junior, has started the Bears' last 21 games.
