    Local roundup: Martin leads Camels to victory

    Worcester, Mass. — Connecticut College senior Caroline Martin reached a milestone on Saturday as the Camels' volleyball team picked up a pair of victories.

    Conn (8-5) beat Farmingdale State 25-10, 25-19, 31-29 and host Clark 13-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-23 and 15-12. And Martin recorded her 1,000th career dig in the process. She had 25 kills and 27 digs in the two matches.

    Ella Johnson had 20 kills, seven blocks and six digs, Jenny Kellogg had 15 kills, 14 digs and four aces and Caroline Branigan had 38 digs for Conn, which lost to Bowdoin 3-0 on Friday night.

    In other matches:

    • Lesley beat Mitchell College 24-26, 25-21, 25-19, 25-14 in the New England Collegiate Conference opener for both teams. Nicole Caminiti had 32 assists former Old Lyme standout Kaisea Caramante had 19 digs and former East Lyme standout Emily Stracuzzi had eight kills and 10 digs for Mitchell (2-8).

    • Coast Guard senior Maggie Hine earned a spot on the all-tournament team as the Bears went 4-0 over the weekend at the Hartwick Invitational. Coast Guard (12-5) beat Morrisville State and Hartwick on Saturday and Nazareth and Elmira on Friday. All four matches were 3-0.

    Against Morrisville, Summer Adams had eight kills, Ashley Dumont had five kills and six blocks, Michelle McGill had 18 digs and Hine had 19 assists. On Friday, Madison Scott had 20 kills and Hine had 60 assists.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Abby Blanchard scored two goals and had an assist as Stonington remained unbeaten with a 4-2 win over Woodstock in an Eastern Connecticut Conference game. Margit Burgess and Jenna Spadaro scored goals, Emma Miller had an assist and Cameron Dreher made one save for Stonington (5-0-2, 5-0-2). 

    College field hockey

    • All-American Roisin Upton scored three goals and had two assists as No. 1 UConn beat Villanova 10-0 in the Big East Conference opener for both teams. Anna Middendorf scored twice and Casey Umstead had a goal and an assist for the Huskies (10-0).

    • Williams College scored the first four goals on the game and went on to beat Conn College 4-1 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game. Katlyn Paiva scored for Conn (1-8, 0-6).

    Men's tennis

    • Thomas Hackett, John Hu and Robert Renfrow all prevailed as Coast Guard won seven of its nine singles matches at the five-team Camels/Bears Invitational. The Bears won five of their eight doubles matches, including Michael Melampy and Jack Phillips.
