Glastonbury holds steady at No. 9 in Day Top 10, despite last week's loss

Voters in The Day of New London Top 10 state coaches’ poll had to ponder two questions this week — should a team be ranked after giving up 61 points in a loss to the state's No. 1 team.

Coaches voted yes, as Glastonbury held at No. 9 even after its 61-41 loss to top-ranked Southington last Friday.

The game between the Central Connecticut Conference powers lived up to expectations. They exchanged the lead six times, five times in the first half alone.

Glastonbury (3-1) led at both the half (31-27) and after three quarters (41-34).

Two-time CIAC Class LL champion Southington finally wore down the Tomahawks with its breakneck offense. It scored 27 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

The rivals could meet again in the Class LL playoffs, as they did last season.

Wethersfield (4-0) makes it season debut at No. 10. Bacon Academy (4-0) and Norwich Free Academy (4-0) are the area teams receiving votes.
