    Local roundup: Schooners rout Newport 10-4 in NECBL

    Newport, R.I. — Ryan Ramiz (Seton Hall) had two hits, including a double, two runs and two RBI, as the Mystic Schooners downed the Newport Gulls on Friday night, 10-4, in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game.

    Toby Handley (Stony Brook) had two hits, including a double, with two runs and an RBI for Mystic (7-6) and Groton’s Aaron Hill (UConn) had two hits, including a double, and scored twice. Also, Scotty Bradley (Indiana) had three hits, including a double, a run and an RBI.

    Jake Brodt (Santa Clara) had two hits, including a two-run home run, and scored twice for Newport (7-7).

    New York-Penn League

    • Jacob Zanon’s two-run single scored Colby Woodmansee and Ali Sanchez in the top of the third as the Brooklyn Cyclones edged the Connecticut Tigers, 2-1, before 4,323 at Dodd Stadium. Merandy Gonzalez allowed four hits over six innings with eight strikeouts and an earned run for Brooklyn (3-5). Sam Machonis singled and scored for the Tigers (5-3).

    District 10 softball (11-12)

    • Waterford defeated East Lyme 13-1 as Angela Colonis pitched a no-hitter and had three hits, including a home run and double, while scoring three runs. Amy Pinch, Tori Kiefer, Bella Williams, Liliana Kramer and Emma Marelli each added two hits for Waterford while Jaelyn Mueller scored the only run for East Lyme.

    • New London defeated Groton/Mystic 14-12 as Caylee Parker had two hits and two RBI, Shylin Rock had a hit and drove in a run, and Dasani Brown and Princess Hernandez each added a hit and RBI. Francesa Foster had two doubles and an RBI for Groton/Mystic.

    • Montville defeated Ledyard 12-8 as Brooke Taylor tripled and drove in four runs while Rory Curran had a single and two RBI. Shailyn Williams doubles for Ledyard.

    District 10 baseball (10-11)

    • Waterford defeated New London 10-3 as Jackson Long hit a three-run homer, Jabez White was 3-for-3 with two tripls and Evan McCue was 3-for-4 with two doubles. Rhodia Perry had an RBI triple for New London.

    • East Lyme defeated Pawcatuck 13-3 as Anthony Enos was 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBI, Connor Piper doubled and drove in two runs, Connor Moran had a triple and RBI and Drew Beckham was the winning pitcher. Patrick Obrey and Austin Lee each had hits for Pawcatuck.
