Police: Vandals deface 4 championship sand sculptures
HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — Police in New Hampshire are investigating the vandalism of four sand sculptures that were created for the 16th annual Hampton Beach Master Sand Sculpting Classic.
The Portsmouth Herald reports that the damage is believed to have occurred early Friday morning.
Sculptors began work on their creations June 16 and they were judged June 18.
Officials say at the vandal or vandals removed the faces from four of the elaborate sculptures.
David Gooch, head of security for the sand sculptures, said the vandalism must have happened between 1:30 and 6 a.m., when he was not on site. He said he had yet to talk to the guard who was supposed to be on duty.
Among the sculptures vandalized was the People's Choice winner crafter by Justin Gordon, of Groveland, Massachusetts.
