UPDATED: Reports of gunfire in New London lead to arrest

New London — A local man is facing several charges after he allegedly shot at a woman Thursday evening, according to police.

Police said they received 911 calls at 5:58 p.m. reporting that shots had been fired during an argument at 73 Blackhall St.

After further investigation, police arrested Shareefe Flanders, 32, of 33 Mountain Ave., Apt. 2, and charged him with second-degree assault with a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a firearm and breach of peace.

Police, who initially could not locate a victim, said on Friday they had found and identified a woman who was a victim in the incident.

Police said a projectile from the weapon Flanders allegedly used struck the woman in her back, but didn't cause a serious injury.

Records show Flanders was charged Aug. 5 in New London with violation of a protective order. That case still is pending in New London Superior Court.

Flanders also has several criminal convictions in Connecticut, including for possession of narcotics, third-degree assault and carrying a dangerous weapon.
