Panic! at the Disco plays Friday at Mohegan Sun

Brendon Urie, of Panic! At The Disco (Rich Fury, Invision/AP)

It's been a while since Panic! at the Disco was an actual band. These days, P! is founding frontman Brandon Urie and an assemblage of hirelings who earn paychecks for their ability to help the singer achieve his creative vision — which is apparently to sound as much like mid-period Queen as possible.

Last year's "Death of a Bachelor" album, a collection of tunes that seem to indicate that Urie fondly recalls his prenuptial debaucheries perhaps a bit too much — or so his wife might certainly believe based on the lyrical content of these exuberantly crafted and shimmeringly produced party anthems and laments.

In "Don't Threaten Me with a Good Time," for example, he sings, "Who are these people? /

I just woke up in my underwear / No liquor left on the shelf / I should prob'ly introduce myself." And in "Crazy=Genius," a romantic partner bemoans our hero's inability to change his feelings since they're stuffed with drugs, adding that he's "just like Mike Love but you'll never be Brian Wilson." Ouch.

Panic! at the Disc Bring the "Death of a Bachelor" tour to the Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, and it promises to be a rocket-ride production of energy, melody and affects.

Panic! at the Disco, 8 p.m. Friday, Mohegan Sun Arena; also, Misterwives and Saint Motel; $49.50, $59.50; 1-800-745-3000.
