Local roundup: Coast Guard downs Maritime in men's lacrosse
New London — Riley McNulty had three goals and two assists as the Coast Guard men’s lacrosse team beat Maritime (N.Y.) on Wednesday night, 14-8, its fourth straight home win.
The Bears pulled away from Maritime by outscoring it in the second period, 4-1.
Anthony Wyler had three goals and an assist for Coast Guard (4-2) and Jack Pope scored three times. Also, Benner Geurtsen had a goal and two assists.
Nick Pellegrino scored three times for the Privateers (3-3) and Danny Connell added a goal and two assists.
In other games:
• East Lyme's McCarthy Brodaski scored the only goal and goalie J.D. LeMay made 21 saves in Mitchell College's 18-1 non-conference loss to Nichols College. Mitchell is 1-3.
Women's lacrosse
• Tessa Walter's goal with 21 seconds remaining lifted Vassar College to a wild 13-12 win over Conn College in a non-conference game. Walters finished with four goals and two assists for Vasser (3-2). Tina Balzotti scored five goals, Jamie Navoni two goals and two assists and Hannah Donegan had two goals and an assist for the Camels (0-4).
• Tess Bradley had six goals and two assists as Rhode Island College spoiled Mitchell's season opener with a 19-5 win in New London. Ashley Murtha scored four goals for the Mariners and Kate McCormack added a fifth game.
