Local colleges: MIT thumps Coast Guard in women's lacrosse
New London — Emily Young had seven goals and an assist as the MIT women’s lacrosse team downed Coast Guard Academy 15-4 in the New England Men’s and Women’s Conference opener for both teams on Thursday.
Cecilia McCormick had three goals and four assists for the Engineers (4-2, 1-0).
Abigail Bradford, Cecelia Hosley, Daria McKenna and MegMarie Stanchi all scored for the Bears (2-5, 0-1).
Baseball
• Chris Testa hit a two-run home run and Niko Bedell a three-run homer in the fifth inning for Becker as it trounced Coast Guard, 14-2.
Evan Barrera went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI for the Hawks (8-4) and Bedell had four RBI.
Jeremy Lhotka hit a two-run single and Timbo Duncan singled and scored for the Bears (6-7), who hurt their cause with six errors.
