    High school roundup: Waterford softball works overtime to win its eighth straight

    Waterford — Chloe McCue delivered a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to score Ashlee Hancock with the winning run Monday as the Waterford High School softball team topped East Lyme 6-5.

    Waterford led 5-0 after two innings, getting a two-run single from McCue and an RBI single by Baylee Brackett. But East Lyme scored one run in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the seventh to tie it, capped by a two-run single by Ariel Ising.

    Rachel Miller had two hits and a run scored and earned the victory in relief for Waterford (8-1), which has won eight straight. Madison Nott added a triple and a run scored.

    Angie Venditti, Isabel Siciliano and Mya Delesdernier each had two hits for East Lyme (4-4) and Delesdernier drove in two runs.

    In other games:

    • Jovanna Potter pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts and scored three runs with two RBI as New London downed Windham 19-0 in five innings. Jaelynn Potter had two hits, four RBI and three runs for the Whalers (2-6) while Osiris Nando had a single, three RBI and two runs. Also, Elizia Malloy had two hits, including a triple, with two runs and two RBI and Dahyir Croft had a single, two runs and two RBI.

    • Madison Sanborn pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts to pace Ledyard to its 5-0 win over Wheeler. Riley Pratt had two hits for Ledyard (4-6). Emma Stock had two hits for the Lions (1-7).

    • Alexis Michon pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and helped herself by getting two hits and two runs as Montville beat Tourtellotte 3-1. Sarah Bigalbal had two hits and two RBI for Montville (4-5) and Abby Dimantini had an RBI double and walked three times.

    • Caitlin Davis had double, triple, home run, four runs and four RBI as Griswold beat Stonington 19-4. Griswold is 9-0. Abby Flakus went 3-for-4 with two runs for Stonington (5-3) and Lainnie Connor had two hits and scored.

    • Amanda Battey had four hits, including a triple, as Ellis Tech beat Grasso Tech 24-9 in a Constitution State Conference East Division game. Ashley Cambisaca had three hits for Grasso (0-7) and Erin Blake and Lucy Urena each had two hits, including a double.

    • Ali Halligan hit a home run with four RBI as Old Lyme beat Haddam-Killingworth 13-0 in the Shoreline Conference. Audrey Gavin had two hits for Old Lyme (2-4).

    • Madison Bodley had three hits and three RBI to power Norwich Tech past Parish Hill 20-2. Vanessa Gumbs had two hits, three runs and an RBI and Daisy Palsimano added two hits and two RBI.

    Baseball

    • Trevor Delesdernier went 5-for-5 with a double, triple and four RBI to power East Lyme past St. Bernard 18-0. Jon Keens had three doubles, a single and four RBI while Matt Abbey added three hits and three RBI and winning pitcher Ryan Kane went five innings for the Vikings (8-1). Connor Svab, Josh Gurnack, Tucker Freeman and Brian Bergeron each had a hit for St. Bernard (3-6).

    • Bryan Caisse had two hits and scored the game's only run on a first inning wild pitch in Norwich Free Academy's 1-0 victory over Waterford. Winning pitcher Tyler Briggs allowed two hits in 5.1 innings and Jack Graham earned the save, striking out all four batters he faced for the Wildcats (5-5). Mike Burrows took the loss, striking out 11 in a complete game effort for the Lancers (8-2), who had their eight-game winning streak snapped.

    Girls' lacrosse

    • Sophie Salgar had four goals and two assists as Williams School remained unbeaten with a 15-10 win over Providence Country Day in the SENE. Rachel Goldstein added three goals and two assists for the Blues (6-0, 4-0) while Audrey Matson had three goals and one assist and goalie Lyndsey Noniewicz made 18 saves.

    Boys' lacrosse

    • Kevin Masson had three goals and James Knowlton added a goal and an assist in the Williams School's 6-4 loss to St. Andrew's. Eli Griswold had two assists for the Blues.

    • James McCoy, Sean Williams and Matt Boguszewski each had two goals in East Lyme's 11-6 loss to Notre Dame of West Haven.

    Boys' golf

    • Sam Gaboury earned medalist honors with a 39 at Norwich Golf Course as Montville remained unbeaten with a 6.5-.5 win over St. Bernard. Chris Bouchard added a 41 for the Indians (6-0) while John Nelson shot a 47 to lead the Saints (0-5, 0-2), who also lost to Windham/Parish Hill 6-1 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III match.

    • Tom Kingsbury shot a 37 to earn medalist honors as Tourtellotte defeated New London 6-0 at Thompson Raceway GC. Andre McClain led the Whalers (0-3) with a 46.

    Boys' volleyball

    • Xirui Wang had 16 kills and five aces as Norwich Free Academy rallied to win its first match of the season 18-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-11 over Hand. Maloyid Perkins had 10 assists for NFA (1-5) and Yeicon Baez added four aces and four blocks.
