Local roundup: Stonington boys' lacrosse heads to ECC tournament on a high note
Montville — Aaron Lahah had five goals and one assist Monday as the Stonington High School boys' lacrosse team topped Montville 15-6 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II game.
David Bibeau had four goals and two assists for Stonington (11-5, 8-3) and Steve DeVoe had two goals and two assists.
The fourth-seeded Bears will play Tuesday in the ECC tournament semifinals at Montville, facing No. 1 East Lyme at 5 p.m. No. 2 Waterford meets No. 3 Bacon Academy at 7 p.m.
Montville is 6-10, 4-8.
In other games:
• Ledyard ended its season with a 12-5 loss to Berlin. Matt Scahill had four goals for Ledyard (3-13) and Connor Kiely scored. Will Burns also had nine saves.
Girls' lacrosse
• No. 2 Stonington will meet No. 3 Waterford at 5 p.m. Tuesday, followed by No. 1 East Lyme vs. No. 4 Montville at 7 p.m. in the ECC tournament semifinals at Stonington High School.
Boys' golf
• Mike Anderson earned medalist honors (38) as Wheeler beat Griswold 7-0 in an ECC Division III match. Nolan Arruda shot a 47 for Wheeler (8-5, 8-0).
• Waterford’s Glen Faber shot a 39 to pace the Lancers to a 7-0 win over Fitch. Bruce Taggart shot a 45 for Waterford (7-6). Colin Fahey shot a 44 for Fitch (4-10).
• Noah Straub shot a low-round 38 for Norwich Free Academy as it beat East Catholic (5-2) and lost to Killingly (4-3). Jack Sullivan shot a 39 for NFA (12-4).
Rowing
• Three Stonington crews medaled Sunday at the Connecticut Public Schools Rowing Association Championships on Lake Waramaug in New Preston. The Bears' first varsity boys' boat was second, with six crews finishing within seconds of one another. Stonington surged over the last 500 meters and almost took the race.
"This year, we had some of the closest races in CPSRA history," coach Tyler Page said in a press release. "Several races required video reviews to decide. A bow ball separated the first two crews in the boys' varsity one race."
Members of the boat were coxswain Alysha Johnson, Brendan McCann, Luke Monteiro, Sam Bunger, John Drago, Tyler Stafford, Nate Bury, Matt Planchon and Ryan Kilcoyne.
Stonington's girls' novice and boys' third varsity boats were each third.
The Bears girls' third varsity was fourth, first varsity sixth and second varsity fifth. The boys' second varsity and novice crews were fifth and sixth, respectively.
