Alyssa Thomas chosen as reserve to WNBA All-Star team

The Connecticut Sun visit the New York Liberty on Wednesday morning at11 before they get a chance to rest during the WNBA All-Star break.

Well, almost all the Sun players will get rest.

Forward Alyssa Thomas was named one of the six Eastern Conference reserves on Tuesday, as chosen by league coaches. It's her first All-Star selection. She joins teammates Jonquel Jones (center) and Jasmine Thomas (guard), who were both selected as starters, at Saturday's game in Seattle.

"It's a huge honor," Thomas said. "Not only are we having team success, we are having individual success as well. I'm extremely happy. Hard work is paying off. When you look at where this program was to where we are right now, it just speaks volumes for what these coaches are trying to do here."

Thomas is enjoying the best season of her four-year career. She is currently third on the team in scoring (13.8 ppg), second in rebounds (6.5 rpg), and tied with Jasmine Thomas for sixth in the league in assists (4.9).

"I'm so happy for AT," Sun head coach and general manager Curt Miller said. "We have taken off this season because of moving her to the four position (power forward) and being a distributing, facilitating four player. She's an attacker, she plays downhill and has really allowed our offense to take off and truly become one of the best offenses in the league."

Thomas is joined by Layshia Clarendon, Stefanie Dolson, Candice Dupree, Elizabeth Williams and Allie Quigley as Eastern Conference reserves. Reserves for the Western Conference are Seimone Augustus, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Chelsea Gray, Brittney Griner, Nneka Ogwumike and Breanna Stewart.

Connecticut (12-8) has beaten New York (9-9) in their previous two games. Liberty post Tina Charles is once again among the frontrunners for league MVP. She's tied for second in scoring (20.1 ppg) and third in rebounding (9.5 rpg).
