Robert Burton of Ledyard, a driver with V3 Transportation, was named Expediter of the Year at an expo.

But instead of accepting his $500 cash prize, he donated it to the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund, a charity that helps truck drivers overcome financial hardship as a result of medical issues.

Burton was nominated for the award by his wife and co-driver Christy, who cited several instances in which he provided assistance to other drivers while on the road.

He found out about becoming a finalist before the expo, and together they decided to donate the prize money to the fund if they won because they had been out of work after a car crash in their personal vehicle.

V3 Transportation elected to match the Burtons’ donation to the fund in honor of their commitment to others.
