Preston Historical Society to hold ceremony on Long Society Meetinghouse restoration

Preston — The Preston Historical Society will celebrate progress being made in the restoration of the 1819 Long Society Meetinghouse on Thursday, with a dedication ceremony for new windows that were funded through grants and a donation by the Mohegan Tribe.

The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the meetinghouse, 45 Long Society Road. Because the building is unheated, the ceremony is expected to be brief, Historical Society President Linda Christensen said.

Members of the Mohegan Tribal Council, local dignitaries, craftspeople and guests are expected to attend. Participants are asked to RSVP by Nov. 5. Call Mike Clancy at (860) 886-0795 to register and for information about the program.

The Preston Historical Society will hold a fundraiser auction from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at the Restaurant at River Ridge Golf Course, 259 Preston Road, Jewett City. The event will feature hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and an auction of items donated by local businesses, artisans and individuals. Bidding will close at 4 p.m., and bidders do not have to be present to win.
