    Groton schools to hold Veterans Day events throughout week

    Groton — Groton Public Schools has a full schedule of events and assemblies planned this coming week in honor of Veterans Day.

    The observances kick off Monday morning with a 10 a.m. schoolwide assembly at Charles Barnum Elementary School. The event will include remarks from U.S. Navy Command Master Chief Ronald Clark and Superintendent Michael Graner, performances from the fourth- and fifth-grade choruses and the reading of student essays.

    Afterward, students will go outside for a presentation from the U.S. Navy Military Working Dog Team.

    On Wednesday, Cutler Middle School will have an assembly at 8:55 a.m. and Catherine Kolnaski STEAM Magnet School will have one at 10 a.m. Veterans who are family members of students have been invited to attend each.

    S.B. Butler Elementary School on Thursday will have a schoolwide ceremony at 9:30 a.m., and from 1 to 2 p.m., members of the military community will read in classrooms. The Dolphin Drill Team of the U.S. Navy is visiting Claude Chester Elementary School.

    Also on Thursday is a luncheon honoring veterans at Fitch High School, from 10:50 a.m. to 12:40 p.m., with four seatings; a luncheon and ceremony at West Side Middle School from noon to 2:15 p.m.; and an assembly at Northeast Academy Arts Magnet School from 2-3 p.m.
