Depending on what interests you historically, the idea of "excellent British music" could mean a variety of things, ranging from monophonic liturgies in the Middle Ages through Victorian music hall tunes, blasting through the Beatles and Stones and all the way up to Adele and Ed Sheeran.

But! The Chorus of Westerly, with its usual unerring and judicious wisdom, narrows the focus to British choral tradition during the debut performances of its 2017-18 Symphonic Series. At 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, the 190-voice chorus, along with the Festival Orchestra and mezzo-soprano Heather Johnson, will present William Elgar's The Music Makers, Jonathan Dove's Psalms for Leo and C.H.H. Parry's I Was Glad.

Music Director Andrew Howell will conduct, and the concerts take place in the shorus' George Kent Performance Hall.
