Music tip: Kelly Clarkson's "Meaning of Life"
Meaning of Life
The big news here is that Kelly Clarkson has left behind the pop music that has propelled her recording career. Finally free of her “American Idol” contract, Clarkson has done what she has always wanted to do: make a soul album. And, boy, does she seem to have enjoyed the experience. The songs on “Meaning of Life” showcase Clarkson’s powerful, versatile voice to amazing effect, strutting on “Whole Lotta Woman,” for instance, and going all come-hither on “Slow Dance.” The second half of the album settles into midtempo territory and could have used more stompers like “Soft Love” and “Heart.” But Clarkson still has a great “Life.”
