Waterford's Jordan Cemetery to take part in Wreaths Across America

Waterford — Local veterans and community groups will participate in "Wreaths Across America," the national wreath-laying ceremony taking place on Dec. 16, and place wreaths on hundreds of veteran graves at Jordan Cemetery, 240 Boston Post Road.

Volunteers, with donations received so far, already have purchased 250 wreaths. The goal is to place 500 wreaths on the graves at Jordan Cemetery. A donation of $15 purchases one wreath, but for every $30 donated, volunteers are able to purchase three wreaths. The cutoff date for donations is Nov. 27. Donations received after that date will be used for the 2018 ceremony.

Participants will gather at the cemetery at 11 a.m. Dec. 16. At noon, a short ceremony will be held prior to the wreaths being placed on the graves. Several state, local and veteran dignitaries have been invited to speak.

Afterward, there will be a gathering at the Waterford Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6573 at 382 Boston Post Road.

Donations can be made at wreaths.fastport.com, search "Jordan Cemetery" or "Freedom Riders USA." The donations are tax-deductible.
