Back from the dead, Tracy Morgan hits up Foxwoods Saturday

Tracy Morgan. He is the comedic powerhouse that has swept the likes of “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” as well as numerous films and, of course, several comedy tours since the dawn of his career in 1988. In 2009, he won an Emmy Award for his role on “30 Rock,” where he played the character of Tracy Jordan, a caricature of himself.

In 2014, however, Morgan and his family didn’t know if he would ever be able to perform on stage ever again, much less stand on it. That’s because, in June of that year, Morgan was caught in a horrific car accident between his limo-van and an 18-wheeler that plowed into the rear of the vehicle. Apart from his long list of injuries which included broken ribs and a shattered femur, Morgan also suffered a traumatic brain injury.

He has since recovered, thankfully, and has reported to Rolling Stone magazine that since the accident, he has produced some of his best comedy yet — in particular, jokes riffed off the accident itself. There was one time, Rolling Stone reports, he came on stage slurring his words and donning a face that looked like “Jack Nicholson's at the end of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.”” The audience watched, worried that their star was, in fact, forever ruined, before he burst out laughing, admitting that he was only kidding. Reading that alone subsequently caused me to burst out laughing. So, if that is any indication on to the type of show he might put on at Foxwoods Saturday night, I’d imagine it’ll be hilarious.

Tracy Morgan, 8 p.m. Saturday, Foxwoods’ Fox Theater; $46-$69; 1-800-200-2882.
