New utility appointee should be accessible

The Norwich City Council has just appointed Rashid Haynes as its member to the CMEEC board. I hope that he does not become yet another of Norwich Public Utilities General Manager John Bilda’s followers and hide from the ratepayers he is to represent. If he follows the trend set by Bilda’s NPU commissioners, he will refuse to have his email address and telephone number posted on the NPU or CMEEC websites.

The Norwich City Council appointed the NPU commissioners, who quickly became Bilda’s commissioners. They refused to reprimand Bilda and the rest for Derbygate and requests to have their email addresses posted on the NPU website have fallen on deaf ears. I guess that they are afraid to hear what the ratepayers think. Maybe Haynes will set a new trend at the utility and truly represent the ratepayers. It would be a refreshing change, but I am not going to hold my breath.
