Art show captures Connecticut River tidal basin

Claude Monet was fond of painting the same subject over and over again, as with his famous 25-canvas set of haystacks. Thank God he wasn't obsessed with Bret Michaels during the singer's straw cowboy hat/bandana period! Anyway, inspiration is mostly a beautiful thing. Consider the latest exhibit at the Marshview Gallery, Estuary Council of Seniors, in Old Saybrook. It features a number of oil paintings by Phyllis Bevington, all of which were sparked by the many visual seductions of the Connectict River Basin. The show opens with an artist reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and runs through April 30. The gallery is located at 220 Main St., Old Saybrook and hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and 8 a.m.-noon Sat.; (860) 388-1611.
