Folksinger Graves plays Niantic
Her office is two doors down from Governor Malloy’s in the capitol building in Hartford. That’s just one of Kristen Graves’ perks as the Connecticut State Troubadour. And each morning that the legislature is in session, Graves kicks off that day’s agenda with a stirring rendition of our state song, “Yankee Doodle.”
Actually, other than Graves in fact serving as state troubadour, none of the above is true.
What is real, though, is that Graves is a fine songwriter and a committed activist — and it’s also true that she was recently named by The New York Times as one of the “new generation of folk.” And, as one of the 175 gigs she does annually, Graves performs Saturday in the Niantic Community Church. Opening the show is Baird Welch-Collins.
