Recent UConn grad Jorge Verde of Montville, was our guest Thursday on The Day’s “Live Lunch Break” concert series. Verde demonstrated estimable guitar chops and a sharp facility for penning concise and clever indie-pop songs. Of particular note was Verde’s comment that the brevity of his tunes is in part inspired by a marketing class he took in college — one that emphasized that modern humans are easily bored. Why write seven-minute tunes when two-minute songs easily nurture listeners? Verde hopes to release a full-length album this year. If you’re a fan of Sand Snowman, Sun Kil Moon or Jose Gonzales, you might like Verde’s work. If you missed the show, we archive all “Lunch Break” episodes at theday.com.
