Mark Knopfler brings band to Foxwoods

Did you know that many physicists agree that the shortest measurable increment of time is notated as 10^-43?

Okay, remember that for a minute while I back up.

My wife and I just celebrated our 22nd anniversary, and I think it's been a remarkable and wonderful journey. However, there IS an asterisk to our whole Happiness Factor. I live knowing full well that Mrs. Koster would be out the door in a 10^-43 if a certain guitarist named Mark Knopfler came a-courtin'.

Yes, Eileen is arguably the biggest Knopfler fan in the known universe (which is another assertion agreed upon by physicists. "That Eileen Koster sure likes Mark Knopfler," wrote Frank Wiczik, whom we all know because of his playful work in quantum chromodynamics.)

Well, hell, Knopfler IS pretty damned great, and I say so in spite of that "Money for Nothing" irritation. In fact, Knopfler has released many terrific albums over the years including "Kill to Get Crimson," "Get Lucky" and last year's "Tracker." Then, of course, there's his work with Dire Straits, the Notting Hillbillies and on one of our fave albums ever, "Screenplaying," a compilation of his gorgeous and evocative film soundtracks. Live? He's truly wonderful — and you can see him Saturday in the Grand Theater at Foxwoods.

    Mark Knopfler, 8 p.m. Saturday, Grand Theater, Foxwoods; $68, $88; 1-800-200-2882.
