Musicians fire up the Hygienic Hootenanny
"Hootenanny" originated in the 1930s as a term to described a musical fundraiser at political gatherings. According to the late Pete Seeger, the New Deal political organization in Seattle voted on "Hootenanny" instead of "Wingding."
In any case - and of far more immediate concern - the Hygienic Hootenanny 2015 takes place Friday in New London's Old Roadhouse. The theme of this year's presentation is "Wine, Women & Song" and, as always, a sterling lineup of artists have signed on.
Performing: The Crew (6 p.m.), Paul Brockett (6:15 p.m.), Bill & Charlie Reyburn (6:30 p.m.), The Carolans (6:55 p.m.), The Friendly Ghost (7:20 p.m.), Dennis Walley (7:45 p.m.), Ben Kane (8 p.m.), and Kevin Kane (8:25 p.m.).
The event is sponsored by the Shoreline Acoustic Music Society and all donations go toward this summer's music in the Hygienic Art Park.
