Malted Barley opens first franchise
Westerly — The Malted Barley is opening a new location in Providence.
The popular downtown pub and restaurant, which formed a franchising arm last year in hopes of taking its cool and casual ambiance on the road, announced Wednesday that owners Colin and Stephanie Bennett have agreed to open a new 4,000-square-foot location at 334 Westminster St. The new spot will open in early fall in the 103-year-old Kinsley Building and will be run by the Malted Barley's first franchisee, Ron Koller, president of Sea Coast Investment Corp.
The building in Downcity (the city's downtown entertainment district) is currently undergoing a $10 million renovation.
"Our amazing selection of hand-rolled and baked-to-order pretzels and array of craft beers will offer patrons an incredible consumer experience and make the Malted Barley a destination spot in Providence for casual dining as well as a place to relax with old friends, new friends and relatives," Colin Bennett said in a statement.
According to a release, the Providence location will offer a wide variety of homemade pretzels as well as sandwiches, appetizers, soups, salads and desserts. Pretzels are baked to order on site.
As a complement to the pretzel menu, 36 craft beers will be offered on draft, as well as more than three dozen bottled brews, cocktails and wines. Live entertainment is planned three times weekly.
