Barrett-Jackson car auction sales at Mohegan Sun top $26 million
Mohegan — Barrett-Jackson’s inaugural Northeast collector car auction at Mohegan Sun, a three-day event that ended Saturday night, drew more than 90,000 spectators, the auction company announced shortly before midnight.
Tickets to the event’s second and third days sold out Thursday, the first day, setting the stage for the most successful inaugural auction in Barrett-Jackson’s 45-year history.
More than 1,700 bidders pushed sales of 552 cars to more than $26 million. Ninety-six percent of the cars available for sale were sold.
In addition, automobilia sales reached $755,000, a record for Barrett-Jackson events held outside the company’s home base of Scottsdale, Ariz.
The auction set Mohegan Sun Arena attendance records.
“It was incredible to witness the electricity that filled our arena,” Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson, said in a statement. “Not only did we make history by selling out of tickets within hours of opening day, we also filled our docket far ahead of the auction.”
The auction helped raise $605,000 for charity, led by the sale of a 2016 Shelby GT-H concept/prototype that sold for $150,000 to benefit the Carroll Shelby Foundation.
Barrett-Jackson’s next event will be Oct. 13-15 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The company’s Northeast auction will return to Mohegan Sun in each of the next four years.
