    Bozrah egg farm plans expansion

Hillandale Egg Farm in Bozrah plans an expansion that will involve the construction of two new cage-free egg facilities within the next several months, state Sen. Cathy Osten announced Monday.

“I am pleased to see this large-scale operation expanding in our district and creating jobs and revenue in our state,” Osten, D-Sprague, said in a statement. “I think it’s important to remember that agriculture-based businesses remain a vital part of our community.”

The new cage-free egg facility at Hillandale’s Bozrah farm is permitted to house up to 2.1 million birds, and will create 65 new jobs. A separate cage-free growing facility — where newly hatched chicks are raised — also will be constructed and will accommodate up to 600,000 birds and create an additional 10 jobs.

Hillandale plans long-term investments totaling from $60 million to $70 million in Connecticut, company officials confirmed.
