Toy bears help kids, prevent homelessness

Nearly 2,000 stuffed bears have been given away as part of an effort to end family homelessness in Connecticut.

The Connecticut Realtors Foundation and the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness are partnering on the effort, and the Eastern Connecticut Association of Realtors delivered Paddington plush bears to Mystic Area Shelter & Hospitality.

The effort so far has raised $49,250. Just a few hundred more dollars will allow the campaign to reach its goal of offering one bear to every child living in a shelter over the coming year, along with providing enough funds to help prevent 50 families from becoming homeless.
